A little back story first before I go into his 2 week appointment. Right before he was born, everyone was taking bets about if the baby I would soon be pushing out was a boy or girl and how much the weight would be. I think my husband said around 8lb 6oz, and he didn't care on the sex (his way of saying he didn't want to be wrong so he wouldn't feel bad if he was). I can't remember what my Dad said. I told everyone I thought I was having a girl and she would be 8lb 8oz. Then my Mom announced that I would be having a boy and he would be 8lb 12oz. Fast forward about 15 mins and a couple of pushes, and it was announced that we in fact did have a boy. They handed him to me and started the process of getting him a big cleaned up and everything. Then the time came for him to be put on the scale. When they announced that he was 8lb 12oz, I thought everyone in the room was going to die. Everyone was amazed that Mom had guessed right on with everything. I was amazed because I couldn't believe I just pushed out a 8lb 12oz baby in 2 contractions. My husband kept telling my mom she needed to go play the lottery or hit the casino when they headed home.
Fast Forward again to this past week. We go in for his 2 week appointment. My Mom made the trip down from Kansas to go with me. I haven't got the hang of both kids totally yet, and I needed to find a dress for my sister's wedding too. So, the night before the appointment we were all sitting around just talking, and somehow it came up with how much everyone thought that Samuel would weigh. I don't really remember many of the answers, but my husband informed me that he won this time when I called in to tell him that 2 weeks after birth his new son now weighs 9lb 15oz. He said he guess right at or just about 10lbs.
His doctor was amazed and wondered what I had put in my milk to make him grow from 8lbs 8oz to the now 9lbs 15oz he was now. The nurse was so sure she was wrong, she weighed and measured him a couple of times. I guess he's gone from 20 inches to 21 inches in just the short time around too. What I find funny about it all...When Genevieve was his age, she was in the 95% in both weight and length. He is a bit bigger than her at this age, and he is only in the 75%. I know they use different scales for boys and girls, so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.
Anyway, he's a big boy, and he's healthy. He goes back in Feb to get his first round of shots. I hate shots time. It makes me so sad to see them scream the way they do. We also have to check with Genevieve's urologist to see if and what kinds of things we need to do with Samuel because bladder reflux is one of those things that if one have it, most likely all your kids will have it. At least with him being a boy, it would be harder for him to get a UTI. Maybe that means they don't need to put him on the antibiotics. I don't know. Keep your fingers crossed that they just want us to know it is an issue and let it play out.
